Mass media is basically my whole world. Almost all aspects of media pertain to my interests and keep me aspiring towards my career goals; which are ultimately in Journalism. I have background in fashion and have an Associates Degree from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Visual Communications. I was inspired by the hosts of E! news and began my education in Journalism pursuing that dream. I'm very open to dabbling in a bit of everything that gets me excited about having a career one day and that all surrounds Fashion and Entertainment.I have a different kind relationship with each of the eight types of mass media.
When it comes to books, its always been hard for me to really get into a book and finish it completely. I'm more of a visual learner so when it comes to me sitting down and giving 100% of my attention to a book, needless to stay its a little hard. I do have my guilty pleasures though...
The Twilight Saga has gotten me back into reading books again mainly because I've been sucked into the forbidden love of Edward and Bella.
The one type of mass media that I have never had a relationship with is Newspapers. At least not the actual thing. The closest I have gotten to a newspaper is online. That's what everything has evolved to... being on the world wide web. The only time I ever use a newspaper is for something school related where I need a physical clipping for proof. I don't like how my hands smell after I touch one and how the ink bleeds onto my fingers leaving a stain. It is the only medium that is slowly dying. The competition of the Internet is truly unbeatable.
Magazines, on the other hand, are my favorite type of reading. I subscribe to two fashion magazines, Vogue and Vanity Fair. The only time I ever enjoy getting something in the mail is either one of these publications (Besides online shopping orders :). I can really get wrapped up in these articles about fashion icons and style trends that are evolving and re-evolving through time. I love all the ads, the set designs and wardrobe behind each photo shoot and the poetry between a girl and the cloths that express who she is that day, in that moment. If I could write for any fashion or entertainment magazine (not tabloids) one of my goals would definitely be fulfilled. It would be dream to go backstage at a fashion show and interview the designer on his/her inspiration for the new collection and see what trends have been fore casted for that season.
Another career goal of mine would be to work somehow in the film industry. Since I was little I've loved movies. The Disney Princess movies were my obsession in elementary school. I can't even count how many times I watched The Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast. Now, I really appreciate great film making. Since I went to FIDM and learned about set design and lighting techniques, when I watch a movie I feel as if I'm a film critic analyzing the scene and the frame and making my own judgements as to if the movie I'm watching is a great motion picture. To me, an exceptional film is one that captures it's audience in feeling some kind of emotion or connection to the story or character. In my opinion, Mystic River is one of the greatest films, meeting all of my criteria for an extraordinary motion picture. I would love to work/write for the E! channel or become a Film Journalist.
Recordings (aka music) is a part of my day that I cant go without. I love listening to my iPod or Pandora. Music, like film, can get an individual to feel some sort of emotion. Your favorite song, the first dance at your wedding, a good break-up song that will let you cry it out. There is a song for every type of feeling you might be having. Pandora has been my source of finding new recordings the past couple years. It is such a simple program, all you do is type in your favorite artist and it plays music from that artist and others that are in the same genre or sound. I'm always finding new songs from internet radio and Downloading them onto my iPod. I couldn't imagine being in a car, cleaning my room, or doing housework and running errands without recordings.
Radio was a lot more popular before MP3 players like iPods came about. When I was little I would love to listen to whatever radio station my older brother was listening to. I don't know if it was the same when I was younger but now radio doesn't have a lot of variety. They are always playing the "it" song over and over or playing music that is outdated. You would think that with all the new music being made every day that radio stations would play a little bit of everything instead of the same five songs on repeat. A great example was when My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion (Titanic Theme Song) was being played literally every other song on almost all the radio stations. I must admit that I like radio better in Los Angeles than in the bay area because its more eclectic and they play newer music.
Television is another favorite medium of mine. Watching T.V. is sort of like an addiction to me. It's hard to get me turn off the T.V. especially now with DVRs. I am such a procrastinator due to the fact that I would rather watch a good show than do pretty much anything else. When I was growing up T.G.I.F. was a family affair. Friday nights after dinner was the best. Sitting down with my parents and watching Boy Meets World or Full House. Even at such a young age I would make a connection with certain characters from each show. When I was around five years old I truly believed that I was Michelle from Full House. There is a tie between my two favorite shows of all time : Friends and That 70s Show. I have a great connection to anything comedy. It is definitely my favorite genre not only for Television but Film and books as well. For a while television didn't have anything good but within the past couple years T.V. has made its comeback with shows like Modern Family, Parks and Recreation, Community, the always hilarious 30 Rock, and Mad Men.
The internet is the super hero of all mediums because it can do it all. You can pay your bills, watch T.V. listen to radio, read a newspaper, read a book, download recordings, read magazines, and research anything that you want ALL on the internet. I spend most of my time on the internet because I can do a bunch of things at once; all you need is a different tab open for whatever you are doing and you are a click away from whatever you want to do next. For example when I am writing a paper or researching something I have a tab open for my research, another tab open on dictionary.com, and my word document open for the actual writing that i'll be doing. My favorite thing to do on the internet is pay my bills. I hate having to send out something in the mail and have to deal with stamps and an envelope. Plus it's considered going green :)

I like L.A.-area radio better too. The best is New York City radio.
